The Department of Civil Aviation is the authority responsible for the establishment as well as the administration of the UAS geographical zones in proximity of the two main international airports. As shown below, both Larnaca and Paphos airports are inside two zones marked as A and B.
ZONE A (Red color) – UAS operations inside this zone are strictly PROHIBITED because the risk of encounter with manned aircraft is very high due to the proximity of the runways of both airports.
ZONE B (Yellow color) – UAS operations in the Open Category inside this zone are RESTRICTED due to the proximity of the two airports. UAS operators who wish to conduct operations in this zone (B) have to request a special permission from the Department of Civil Aviation by completing and submitting the application form 7 working days before the intended operation. The application form can be found here. Please note that a third party insurance cover of €1,000,000 is mandatory for UAS operations inside this zone (B).
The Geo Zones file for the Republic of Cyprus can be downloaded by pressing the button below. UAS operators have the responsibility to upload this file into the Geo Awareness System of their drone, provided this function is available.
